Introducing New Scholars to Population Science
At the Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation, we believe that introducing a wide range of potential scholars to population science will continue to push our field forward. In 2015, we developed an enrichment initiative with the goal of increasing opportunities for upcoming scholars. We have been welcoming Fellows every summer since (even if virtually in 2020 and 2021). We collaborate with mentors from IPUMS, the Minnesota Population Center (MPC), and the Life Course Center (LCC) to provide research experiences for students. The fellows spend the summer working on IPUMS data infrastructure projects or with MPC or LCC member faculty on demographic research projects.
Become a Summer Fellow
- We are expecting more details on the 2026 Program in January, 2026. We will start accepting applications then.

Become a Mentor
Mentors help our fellows have a great experience with the program. We recruit mentors from all of our centers, including faculty and research staff. See our current call for projects for Summer 2026.
